The Libyans

The Libyans are truly the most friendly people in the North Africa. They respect privacy and do not hassle foreign visitors ( as is the custom in Egypt or Tunisia) Libya has a small population (just over 5 million people) within its huge territory, with a population density of about 3 people per square kilometer ( it is one of the lowest in the world) in the two northern regions of Tripolitania and Cyrenaica, and less than one person per square kilometer in the desert areas. Libyans live in less than 10% of the area, mostly along the northern coast. More than half the population is concentrated in the two largest cities Tripoli and Benghazi.

There are small Tuareg (particularly in the Jebel Akakus) and Tebu ( mostly around Murzuq )   tribal groups living mainly in the south. Among foreign residents are citizens of other African nations like Egyptians, Tunisians, Sudanese, Chadians, West Africans and Sub-Saharan Africans.
